The Boys
| 16th - 20th of July, 2019
| Studio One, UNSW | Written by Gordon Graham | Directed by Isabella Olsson | Produced by Liam Jarvis | Lead Designed by Jordan Barnes | Stage Managed by Liam Olsson Content Warning: this play contains discussions of physical and sexual violence. In the wake of a brutal murder, a family of women grapples with the violence, cruelty and misogyny exhibited by the men in their lives. Gordon Graham’s The Boys is still painfully pertinent in 2019, and its themes of violence, entitlement and toxic masculinity remain poignant and worryingly relevant. Set in suburban Australia, this intense play focuses on the impact men’s hate and violence has on the women they love. Written in the 1990s, The Boys has not been performed in Sydney since 2012 but remains painfully pertinent in 2019 as its themes resurface in the aftermath of the murders of Eurydice Dixon, Aiia Maasarwe, Natalina Angok and Courtney Herron. In the first ever production in the revamped Studio One, a vibrant cast explores the ever-present sexism within Australian society. |
