Week 8 SHow: Between Two Waves
Last year with Don’s Party NUTS took a long hard look at the Australian Dream. Williams’ piece explored the disparity between social and individual fulfillment and the psychological effect on those who chose life, home ownership and the security of nine-to-five over what the truly want for themselves. For their generation the simplicity, stability and prosperity of a humble, hard working life was too good an offer to refuse. Almost fifty years later, Between Two Waves shows a vision of the future that is not so simple. The optimism for the future that was enjoyed by our parents and theirs can often feel a distant luxury when there is no way of knowing what that future will look like.
This uncertainty is told in the story of a young couple, Fiona and Daniel. For Fiona, a psychologist turned photographer turned civil secretary; certainty for the future proves ever elusive as she struggles to become the person she can be for the rest of her life. For Daniel, a climatologist with what he believes to be a factual grasp on how the world is ending, the notion of a bright future seems selfish and futile.
Premiering at Sydney’s Griffin Theatre in 2012, Between Two Waves contains an urgent message about our time and place. Come and have a long hard look at yourself.

DUSA, FISH, STAS AND Vi auditions
NUTS presents Auditions for Dusa, Fish, Stas and Vi by Pam Gems
The play follows the lives of four women at different stages of their 20’s. Dusa, a mother going through a divorce who desperately wants to find her children, kidnapped by their father. Fish, a seemingly confident lawyer who’s life begins to fall a part when her long time on and off lover begins to settle down with another woman. Stas, a physiotherapist by day and hostess at night, trying to save enough money to study in America, and finally Vi, the youngest of the group struggling with her mental health. As the lives of these women unravel, hope is found, breakdowns are inevitable and the four women’s limits are tested from one extreme to the other.
