Tech

Picture
This Old Man Comes Rolling Home (2018)
All productions require some form of technical knowledge in order to put a play on!  Tech in theatre involves all backstage roles; such as lighting, sound, stage management, set, costume etc.

The technical team works before, during, and after the show run, prepping the stage for the actors to perform in safety and with confidence that any non-human elements work with consistency.

NUTS is a society which encourages all those interested in the technical side of performance, to get involved and learn beside more experienced members. You only improve on the job some say, and that couldn't be more true with technical roles in NUTS.

Whether you're working on a snow machine or yelling "GOING DARK", technical jobs in NUTS give you an outlet for your organisational but creative mind!

Technical Management

The technical manager is the safety officer of the production before it reaches the stage.

They ensure all plans for tech are logical and will not unnecessarily risk anybody in the production.

These include ensuring the set design all props are suitable for its capacity and making sure the lighting and sound plans are appropriate with the space.

Often, but not always, Technical Managers have some form of safety training, and have had experience working with a variety of technical trades. From set construction to plugging up the lighting, Tech Manager covers a broad spectrum of portfolios, ensuring that they all come together.

So why do tech with NUTS?

NUTS fosters those interested or experienced with all things technical.

We run workshops which teach you how best to go about your duties, whilst giving you practical experience with construction, electrical, hi-tech, projections, smoke machines, snow machines, etc.

See, that's the beauty of technical management; you have creative control over how to make the director's visions work in a practical level. Your professional opinion is sacred and determines what can work and not work.

If you wanted to design a machine that can drop a fish from the roof, well...you can!

NUTS is waiting for you to blow our minds and make things happen!
