The Temple| Studio One, UNSW
| 18th - 22nd August, 2015 | Written by Louis Nowra | Directed by Michael Booker | Produced by Rosie Niven About the play
In a time when material gain and malevolent buffoonery shaped the political and economic landscape, much can be said of Australia in the eighties for Australia in 2015.
The Temple holds a mirror to the side of Australian culture we try to ignore, or deny, in the form of Laurie Blake; truck driver and butcher turned business entrepreneur. Blake’s takes a red-pill-right outlook on the world, where money is law, women are meat and friends are only potential enemies. Through brutality and deception he takes what he wants, unapologetic for the lives, businesses and economies he ruins along the way. This production explores how privilege can distort our reality, allowing atrocities to be committed and questions the disparity between those figures we admire and those we allow to succeed. A gruesomely dark yet wickedly funny play from the writer of 'Cosi' and 'The Golden Age.' |
